How to Teach Teenage Girls Healthy Eating Habits

By Rachel Rays Gift

healthy eating

Regrettably, weight loss for teenage girls often entails unsuitable, unhealthy eating habits, such as crash dieting or experimenting with diet pills. Sadly this is often the onset to eating disorders and other serious health problems.

Studies undertaken show that nearly 70% of young teenage girls have attempted to lose weight before their 18th birthday. Is it necessary for these young girls to be dieting, and are they doing it in a way that is not detrimental to their health?

It is crucial to teach your teenage daughter how to develop a healthy lifestyle which is more than merely encouraging her to eat healthy meals. A healthy lifestyle means to develop habits that she can practice for the rest of her life.

This article addresses the issues of healthy weight loss habits, weight management and body image.

Promote Gradual Weight Loss

As a parent it is not always easy to get your child to eat healthy balanced meals, and there are circumstances where your child may need to lose a little weight. It is then your role as a responsible parent to promote safe, gradual weight loss.

Many teenage girls will put themselves onto strict crash diets. The problem with crash diets is that not only are they potentially damaging to your daughter’s health, but gaining the weight back again is inevitable and unfortunately the gain is often beyond that of her original weight.

A loss of 1-2 pounds per week is recommended to achieve permanent weight loss results.

Get The Whole Family Involved

To get your teenage daughter to adopt healthy eating habits, the whole family needs to be involved. Rather than filling your kitchen with unhealthy snacks or “forbidden foods”, stock your kitchen with foods that are good for you.

Offer snacks that are nourishing, satisfying, and tasty. Always prepare nutritious, well balanced meals and replace those sugary snacks and potato crisps with fresh fruit and nuts.

Teenagers who get the support from their families will achieve better weight loss results and are more likely yo maintain their weight loss, than those who don’t. Additionally, children who grow up educated in healthy eating habits at home will adopt those habits for the rest of their lives.

Start The Day With A Nutritious Breakfast

There are a number of reasons why teenage girls will often skip breakfast such as; not feeling hungry, they’re running late, or they believe that skipping breakfast will help them to lose weight.Missing breakfast wil in factl slow down her weight loss efforts. Eating a nutritious breakfast fuels the brain and the body, and kick-starts the metabolism to burn off additional calories right throughout the day.

Drink Plenty Of Water

One of the biggest weight gain perpetrators is high sugar drinks, energy drinks and fruit juices. Instead, try to promote water as an alternative to these high calorie beverages. Not only is water calorie free, but it flushes out harmful toxins and rejuvenates the body.

Discuss Body Issues

Many teenage girls struggle with body image issues and it is vital to discuss openly with your daughter any of the concerns that she may have with her weight and body image. Encourage her to discuss her worries, about her body image and why she thinks she needs to lose weight. For the health and safety of your daughter these issues should never be brushed aside. Your support and assistance will allow your daughter to continue to grow in happiness and good health.

Healthy Eating For Life

By Rachel Rays Gift

healthy eating

We have all heard and read probably a thousand times about the importance of healthy eating. We have been encouraged time and time again to trade fast food meals for meals full of fruits and vegetables. For most of us, healthy eating is a matter of changing the habits we have carried for years. How amazing would it be if we did our children a favor and helped them to establish healthy eating patterns from the time of their birth?

I’m confident that the generation behind us would grow up much healthier and in much less need of major diet or fitness alterations in their adult years. The more we teach our children about the importance of healthy eating and the more we provide healthy options for them to eat, the better off they will be.

One of the biggest reasons that parents do not take the time to provide healthy meals for their children is lack of time. I mean really, who has the time to prepare a home cooked meal filled with fresh fruits and vegetables, lean proteins and whole grains every night? My suggestion to all busy parents is to realize how important the health of your children is. Only as you begin to make their health a priority will you fight for ways to provide healthy eating for them.

Establishing healthy eating patterns for children can be as simple as making some easy substitutions in your grocery shopping and menu planning. Trade whole milk for lowfat or skim milk and only get reduced fat yogurts or ice creams. Go for whole grain crackers and breads rather than filling your cart or their lunch boxes with potato chips or unhealthy snack crackers. Start their day off with healthy eating by only purchasing cereals and oatmeals that are low in sugar and high in essential vitamins and minerals.

Healthy eating is a matter of making better food choices. The next time your children beg you to get them fast food, do so only under the condition that they must choose from the healthier chicken or salad items on the menu. Look for ways to compromise as you bring healthy eating principles into your family. As the parent it is your responsibility to make sure that your children are developing healthy eating habits. There is no better time to do this than now. Your kids will thank you one day when they are still eating healthy as adults.

The Seal and Healthy Eating for your Children

By Rachel Rays Gift

When you receive the Seal God leads you to healthy eating choices. He cares about nutrition and wants you to lead a long and healthy life. And He cares about your children. A new study shows they may be responding.

Your children may not be as resistant to healthy foods as you thought. You may have had problems getting kids to eat foods they did not “like.” And this may have included many of the healthier foods.

But one place this is not happening as much as you thought is at school. Kids at school when offered healthier meals are not rejecting them in droves but instead are eating them–and enjoying them.

A University of Minnesota study shows that at least in Minnesota schools for the last few years kids have been happy to eat healthier school lunches. The study is published in the December issues of The Review of Agricultural Economics.

Researchers looked at 330 Minnesota Public School districts. They looked for schools that met federal guidelines for nutrients and also calories and fat. And when they calculated the results they found something interesting.

Schools serving the healthiest lunches did not see any reduction in demand for those lunches. Kids were still buying the healthy school lunches in as many numbers as those buying the older, less nutritious versions.

The study also looked at how cost-effective more nutritious meals are in the school setting. The labor costs for nutritious foods is higher. And many school workers need to be trained to provide nutritious meals.

But there is also a lower cost–the cost of the food itself. Fruits and vegetables do not cost as much as their processed alternatives. So a balance was found between labor costs and supplies costs, showing that healthy meals would not cost much more.

The Saint Paul school district is the example others may follow. They serve over 46,000 lunches a day and when they started changing to healthier foods, the students responded well. They actually saw an increase in those buying lunches.

They served more fruits and vegetables and got more kids to eat them at the same time. What you may have thought an impossible task has been easily accomplished in Saint Paul.

And their “junk foods” are also compromises between bad and good. They do offer hot dogs on their menu. But they are made of turkey and are low-fat. So the kids can have indulge once in a while without going overboard.

Now some other regions might do similar studies without finding exactly the same results. But the researchers believe this is happen everywhere in America. Kids are showing willingness to eat healthier foods at school.

You may have the experience that kids simply refuse to eat what is good for them, or what is better for them. But this study may be the beginning of healthier alternatives in schools that the kids actually like to eat.

And that may help kids to learn to like healthy foods everywhere else too and not just at school. This is what God is doing for the youth today. Showing them that they can enjoy taking care of their bodies and starting at a young age.

When you are sealed God writes His Name in your forehead. And He wants you to be fit when you bear His Name. Fitness includes diet. He wants you to eat the right foods. He does not want you to suffer any health risks for your diet.

God also wants your kids to avoid health risks. And they can start with their diets. This study is showing kids already have started. You can start too. You can start today by learning how to receive the Seal.
